Groups E and F played out their final round of fixtures on Wednesday as Group E’s Sweden took on Poland who needed a win to secure a round of 16 place but fell short as Sweden won 3-2 thanks to a brace from Emile Forsberg and a late goal from Classen, Lewandowski’s brace wasn’t enough to save his side on the day.

Spain and Slovakia also played their final group fixture in Group E as Spain looked to end their 2game winless streak in the competition, the Spanish side didn’t start as they would have loved to as Alvaro Morata missed from the penalty spot but they only increased their desire to win as they ran riot and struck five times to claim a convincing 5-0 victory against a Slovakia side who couldn’t do much on the day.

Group F saw France take on Portugal in what was an exciting matchup, a match that saw three penalties given, two to Portugal and one to France, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo each scored twice for their teams to secure a point each as the match ended 2-2 with both teams advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.

Germany took on Hungary in Munich and needed to avoid defeat to progress to the knockouts, the Germans had to endure a scare early on as Hungary scored first, but couldn’t secure a win as they could not hold on to their lead twice on the night and allowed Germany to get a draw late in the game through a Leon Goretzka strike to secure a 2-2 draw and see Hungary exit the tournament.
